When I do my initial dye process, I do it in my backyard. It helps to be outside because it is so messy. My wonderful husband found an old ping pong table and this has become my work table for the back yard.

Update: November 9th, 2009 I am sorry I left this blog a bit unfinished. I had another wonderful summer of dyeing fabric. I use Procion dyes for my initial dyeing process. These fabrics become the first stage of my series of layering pattern and color. This year Tom (my husband) set up two large tables. The tables consisted of 4 ft. X 8 ft. pieces of plywood on top of saw horses. These tables turned out to be perfect. The ping pong tables were a little two low for me. The new tables are just the right height. Tom also had managed to find four pieces of very nice thick plexiglass. I put the plexi on the tables and it makes a perfect surface. Easy to clean and I can even use the surface for mono-printing. I mixed up the chemical water and all the colors of dye I had and got to work. My cousin from Vermont came down for a couple of days and played with me and my dyes. Another friend came by for an opinion on a piece she was working on, she saw what we were up to and rushed home and came back with white fabric. I worked for almost two weeks. It was wonderful. It was very productive. I still have to get the fabric all heat set and washed. I got very busy with other things and haven’t gotten to that part yet.
